What’s in a Name?

Our name is inspired by Torah, Talmud, Mishnah, and Ketuvim (Psalms).

In Deuteronomy 4:12, the text states:

וידבר יהוה אליכם מתוך האש קול דברים אתם שמעים ותמונה אינכם ראים זולתי קול

“Adonai spoke to you out of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but perceived no shape—nothing but a voice.”
This alludes to Adonai having no physical form, but rather is an entity that transcends the physical realm.

In Talmud and Mishnah, there are references to a voice—the divine voice from which prophets receive their sibylline messages. This voice is referred to as “בת קול” (“Bat Kol”), which, in English, translates to “Daughter of the Voice”.

“Tehom” (“תהום”), in the Tanakh, is a term that means “deep”, the plural form being “tehomot” (“תהומות”), carrying with it the meaning of “the depths”. The term “tehom/ot” can be found in Psalms 33 and 42.

In the context of creation, Tehomot (“תהומות”) represents the primordial waters or the chaotic abyss from which the “ordered” world emerges. Kol Tehomot (“קול תהומות”), therefore, can be interpreted as the voice or expression of these deep, creative forces at work in the Universe. This voice is not just a literal sound, but a symbol of the Divine Command that brings order from chaos.

In a broader sense, “Kol Tehomot” (“קול תהומות”) can be interpreted as an expression of the hidden, powerful, and sometimes overwhelming aspects of the Divine.

The name Kol Tehomot is associated with the profound and mysterious forces of nature, often linked to the deep waters and chaotic primordial elements.

Our name, “Kol Tehomot” (“קול תהומות”), to us, means “Voice of The Depths”. It is the perfect fit considering the nature of our Business.

*** We would like to give a special thanks to Kohenet Ketzirah who was also a source of inspiration for the name. ***
